If you mean you can put your hand on your stomach and feel the baby's heartbeat when you are pregnant, that is not possible. What you are feeling is your own pulse. At 18 days after conception, the baby's heart begins to beat. As early as 8 weeks a doctor may be able to hear the heart beat with an ultrasonic stethoscope. Because the baby is surrounded by the amniotic fluid, you would not be able to get your hand close enough to the baby to actually feel his/her heartbeat.

Feel or hear? Sometimes I would mistake my own heartbeat and gas movements for the babies. I even bought a fetal monitor and it still was my own heartbeat. The babies heart rate is going to be a lot faster than yours, around 110 or more so, if you are hearing a very fast pulse, that is the baby, slower 70 - 90, that is yours. Good luck to you... Any idea on the conception date? That would make it much easier for you to determine your time frame. Your 1st prenatal will give you most of the information you are seeking. Good luck to you again!!

You won't be able to FEEL the baby's heartbeat, ever during the pregnancy. What you are feeling is your own blood pressure, which gets easier to feel and in more places as the pregnancy continues. You should go on to the doctor and get under their care no matter how far along you are. Also, if you want to guesstimate your gestation you should go to the date of your last menstrual period and count forward. That will give you a rough estimate.

You are probably feeling your own heartbeat. Take your pulse...if it is the same rate, then that is what you are hearing. The baby's heartbeat is EXTREMELY fast. You will be able to hear it at your first sonogram and then you won't be confused again.
