In the Darfur region, the nomadic Arabic speaking Muslims (Janjaweed) are in conflict with the non-Arabic speaking Muslims who live in fixed communities. The Janjaweed is encouraged by the Sudanese government, and have killed 300,000 of the settled people and driven 2.2 million out as refugees. The conflict has reached genocidal proportions, and response has been inadequate.
