The water builds up at the bottom of my dishwasher, and I have to scoop it out with a can. there is no visible blockage, so I'm not sure what's wrong. Does anyone, especially a plumber, have any ideas of what might be wrong? Would something like LiquidPlumr work?

DO NOT USE LiquidPlumr...

There is a solonoid dump valve that may be bad. The function of the valve is to release the water after the wash cycle. You'll need to pull the dishwasher from the space and locate the valve under the dishwasher. It has two wires that plug onto a round plastic coated coil. Most appliance part stores will carry the replacement part. Have the model and serial number available to call and verify that the store stocks your particular part.

You can also locate a black rubber hose (approx 3/4 in diameter) that connects to drain under sink. Disconnect that to make sure that is not the location of the clog.

It could be a problem with the pump, the impellor in the pump could be jammed with a particle of food that flowed through it, or the pump could be operating improperly. Don't use Liquid Plumber.
