Hey, I'm an actress but I am confused on this. I have a resume and headshots what do I do with them? Do I send them to somewhere or an agency? Is that it? Thanks!

Perform in as many plays as you can so agents can attend your performance. When you are in a show, mail a headshot/resume to the Talent Agencies that interest you. Be sure to tell them you are in a production and that "comps" are available.

Never call an agent's office unless they request that you call them. Most Talent Agencies accept actor resumes, that is how they find new talent, other than going to the theater. Get the address of the Talent Agency that interests you. Mail your 8x10 headshot, with a short note, such as: please keep me in mind if you can use my "type."

As a former Talent Agent, I can tell you, never call an agency unless requested to do so, NEVER ask an agency if they are "accepting submissions," they will think you are crazy." The word "submissions" to an agent has a different meaning.

Contact the local acting/talent agencies in town by phone, and ask if they are accepting submissions.

If yes, send the headshot and resume along with a brief cover letter.

If they accept you, you'll go in for an interview and then you're on their books from which they select people to go on auditions. If they don't accept you, re-submit in six months or a year (with a different headshot and updated resume).

It's good to check in once a month or so (if they've accepted you); sometimes they forget about you if you haven't gone out or booked anything for a while.

Even if you don't have an agent, you'll need to bring the H&R to any audition you go on.

As an established actor/actress I suggest getting yourself an agent. It's the easiest way. Otherwise you'll just have to attend every cattle-call you come across. :) Plus, the agent will help you decide whether your head-shots are marketable and may tell you to get some new ones. :) Be sure to do research on the agency you choose first, though!
