You're young my child
You've oh so much to learn
And writing songs can be hard to do
Take your time
Wait your turn

Seriously though! Don't be so hard on yourself.

I have found that using a different guitar tuning can be helpful. The key of G works best for me. Play around and create some nice sounding chords. The melody will just come to you when you find some chords that work together.

I always felt like someone else inside me did the writing. All I had to do was 'tune in' as it were. It all comes from within!

I like to find someplace comfortable (my bed usually), set up my recording equipment, slip on the headphones and let it flow. I always record even if it turns out so-so. Listen to the recordings over and pull out the good stuff. Put all the good stuff together and do it again.

Above all, let it come from the heart!

The music must come from your heart. Play around with the guitar chords. Listen to what you feel is write. Make a few phrases and put them together...

If you really want it, you will do it. Don't worry. Everything needs practice. I have the same problem too;
I love ice skating more than anythign in the world. And people tell me that I am talented. But when it comes to spins, for some reason my friend can do it and I can't!!!! I almost cried!!!!

But as my mom said, practice makes perfect. You may be very talented, but everyone has a weak spot. If you keep trying, I'm sure you'll get it!!!!

For guitar writing I can suggest play lots of different scales, don't just stick to one. And also make sure you don't go by everything the book tells you to, be creative and bend the rules a bit.

For melody I can only suggest study other guitar parts, especially some Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin or Eric Johnson as they're all very melodic composers of Rock music. For any further questions send me an email via my profile, I've been writing songs for a long time now.

i write songs all the time, and through the years, i have found that not everyone can do it. some people have it naturally, some people have to learn to do, and some people don't have it at all. but when you try to write songs, try to write about things that have happened to you or things you wish would happen to you. you could also find people who help you come up with lyrics. who knows, maybe you are the type of person that will learn over time. good luck!

It's easy.

Just learn the chords to other songs you really like. Mix a few different songs in one.
Then, mix the parts that go with each other up.

Try it out. It's a start, rather than trying to do it from scratch.

Try to get inspiration from other music.

Broaden your horizons, try to get into music you are unfamiliar with and let them influence you.

First you must listen before you produce.

Try to do freestyle writing. The syllables rule and the rhyming will just choke you. take it easy. start doing freestyle.
