Prenatal vitamins do not make women sick. Choosing to take vitamins on an empty stomach can make you feel ill. Vitamin and mineral supplements can cause nausea, heartburn and other gastric disturbances, especially when taken on an empty stomach. For best absorption and the least irritation to the stomach, take your supplements with a meal containing fat. This is particularly important for fat-soluble vitamins (A, D and E).
Best of luck to you, take care.

Yes it is true that prenatal vitamins can make you sick when you are pregnant. So can most of your favorite foods, getting up to quickly, sitting still too long, etc.
If you find that you are getting sick when taking prenatal vitamins then don't take them. There are so many things that will make you feel sick while you are pregnant that you will be fighting to keep anything down. I personally took two Flintstones chewables a day while I was pregnant and had no problem keeping those down. Your doctor will most likely advise you to do the same thing.
More often than the prenatal vitamins making you sick it is the Iron pills that make people sick. I was never able to take the iron pills at all. Do some research on vitamin rich diets for pregnant people. Sometimes eating the right foods helps.
Taking a vitamin that you are only going to (excuse my harshness) spit right back up isn't going to help anything at all anyway.
Try the vitamins for a few days and if they make you sick, try the Flintstones and the vitamin rich diet.

Prenatal vitamins are so full of different vitamins, it will be hard on your stomach at first. I got sick when I took the whole pill. So I only take half before a meal and the other half after the meal.
And sometimes if I take it in the morning, I will feel tired. so I take them at night before bed.
If you feel sick when you take it, I suggest you do the half thing until your body gets used to the vitamins.
Usually, the place you get your prenatal care will give you the vitamins for free during the whole course of the pregnancy, so you dont have to waste money on it.
Good Luck

my last pregnancy i went and bought vitamins for pregnancy as i suffer from really bad morning sickness(that lasts all day)i chose the vitamin tablet that would help me and provide for the baby and the day after i started taking the vitamins i was so much more sicker(i didn't think it was possible to get sicker)i went back to the pharmacy and asked why i felt worse and they explained to me that you should only take what vitamins you are lacking because if you are taking in more than what you need it is like an overdose it makes you sick, so maybe before you take anything have a good talk to your pharmasist or gp.... good luck with your pregnancy ....best wishes xxx

It's different for everyone. Most of my friends had no problem with the vitamins, but they made me very sick. I couldn't handle them even after the pregnancy.
Perhaps you could ask your doctor for a pre-natal vitamin sample. That way, if you find you can't stomach them, then you didn't waste your money on a whole bottle of them.

I'm pregnant with number 4...haven't had a problem with the vitamins...just really bad 'day' sickness with my youngest son. I actually found it benificial to take the vitamins at night, before I went to bed, because that was the time when I stopped puking.
Congrats to you!

They can sometimes make you sick, but I've had no problem. No matter what, though, I always take mine at dinner so even if they do make me feel bad I can take a phenegrin and go to bed. If you take them in the morning you run the risk of getting sick and having to go to work/school feeling horrible all day.

I didn't get sick taking them with my son but then when I got pregnant with my daughter I had to only take them when it was time to go to sleep or I would get really sick. I'm the same way with my pregnancy now.
Good luck!!!

At first they made me sick both times pregnant. I'd wait for the doctor to prescribe them for me with a prescription. I always take mine before bed so that I'm laying down the entire night and won't be moving around. It helped me to take them at night.
Congratulations!

yes they can sometimes make you sick but not always. if they upset your stomach try taking them at different times through the next few days to see if you find a time that best suits you.
