Absolutely not! Apart from the fact that people have become more aware of the negative impact racism has on society as a whole and doing a great job improving the situation by allowing more equality, people (as a whole) have lost lots of their manners, morals and class. The use of bad language has increased drastically and more discourteous behavior is noticeable; it's become more of a cultural norm in some places and more accepted than it was before. You don't have to be alert to notice the increase in profanities in the mass media: in films, books, on the Internet. TV, let alone has become swamped with shows revealing vulgarities and offensive materials. But what makes society's integrity diminishing more obvious is the fact that people have become a little used to it and some consider it "okay".

However, if it's a question of education, medicine, science and technology (bearing in mind how things nowadays are far easier than they were before), then yes, society has managed to improve (but maybe not at a rate it might have done so prior to the past century).

Though you must put in sight major issues in today's world that may have been the effect of things that happened throughout the past one hundred years; things like global warming, endless wars and disputes, over-population and famine.

With most of the world in agreement that beating women and slavery are bad , I would have to say things have improved. The medical and technological advances have made life easier for most , people live longer and healthier lives and food is more plentiful than 100 years ago.

This world has it's ups and downs... Society was never improved or vice versa... With new wonderful inventions and discoveries they all have their pitfalls and dark sides... As an average person as well, we all have our virtures and vices in our lives. Here is a question to ponder "How are we supposed to get off Earth, if we don't simply understand and respect each other?"... ^_^

In some ways yes and in others ways no. I guess a big part depends upon where you live and where your place in society happens to fall.
