I'm not too sure who is going to deliver my baby. I just found out today I was pregnant, but I'm not sure if my gyno is going to be the one or some random doctor at the hospital or a midwife. I don't know how to go abouts this or even what a midwife is! Help!

Ask around people you know with young kids and find out who they had deliver. Word of mouth is best when choosing a doc. 2nd only to if they accept your insurance or not.

I went to a office where there were 6 doctors. Usually you have to see all 6. I was lucky enough to get to see one the whole time. But my last appointment, my doc was out on an emergency, so I saw a midwife. she was WONDERFUL. she ended up delivering my baby and I could not have asked for a better person. Don't let the fact a midwife is not a doctor discourage you. Mine was amazing......calm, patient, supportive. I pushed for 2 hours and she got me through it with NO devices.....no vaccuum or forceps, even though at that point I was ready to quit. Midwives are awesome. good luck.

You should see an OB/GYN which means obstetrics (deliverying, labor doctor) gynecologist. Some doctors are GYNs only which deals with womens health but not delivering babies. Then there are others that are both. The OB doctor is the type that delivers babies. Midwives are available in some areas, but not all the time.

You need to get prenatal care all through your pregnancy so it is important to get set up with an OB/GYN doctor right away. There are usually womens clinics in every major city. Depending on your insurance, there are clinics for self-pay and then there are clinics for Medicaid deliveries. If you wait too long (like after you're 5 months pregnant), you won't be accepted at any clinic.

Good luck!

It depends if you go to a private practice or a general practice, if it is private the doctor that you see will deliver your baby unless they are on vaction but they will give you the doctor that will deliver you, if you go to a general or clinic doctor there is usually a rotaion of about two docotrs and a nurse practioner an one of those will deliver you.
