I recently went to the doctor to check a lump of my back - shape of a pea. he said it was a cyst.
Could it be anything else because it seems to move and get bigger and smaller?

This is called a SEBACEOUS CYST and it is caused by a blocked pore. The sweat secretions can't get out so they build up inside causing a cyst.

everytime you will squeeze it or it gets open by itself sebum will
come out and it will decrease in size . it may reaccumulate and gets bigger.

Being the size of a pea you should not worry about and you can keep squeezing it .

IT IS HARMLESS .

Its a cyst. They can grow bigger or smaller. Cysts are usually caused by trauma (I got one on my lip from biting it) You can have them removed by a dermatologist. You can help reduce its size by putting a warm cloth on your back and trying not to mess with it, sometimes they go away and sometimes they don't.

It is a cyst. They can do that. But if you are still worried about it I would make another appointment but with a dermatologist. They specialize in skin care.
