line 6 is a really good manufacture of amps in my opinion. marshalls are good as well. crates are typically on the lower end as far as quality and sound, but they don't cost as much. mesa boogie amps are pretty decent as well. and kranks are good but you gotta get the big ones with kranks. i would go with a $100 line 6 if you are just playin in your house or whatever. you gotta go for at least 50 watts if you are playing with drums and bass and another guitarist. but don't spend a fortune if you live in a dorm. in other words, if you are mostly gonna be playing where you can't play really loud then go for like 25 watt or less. Kustom makes a really good 25 watt amp. i would suggest that or the line 6 if you go small. if your going big then get a line 6 or a krank or a marshall.

Depends on how much you want to spend and where/what you will play. I have had all kinds of amps, but have settled down with Line 6 Spyder II 30, although I might buy the new Spyder III 30, the newer model. It's a small amp (30W) but with a larger Celestion speaker (12" - normally, smaller amps have only 10" speakers), so more bass, and very good amp models. And all that for under $200 at musicinasfriend.com or music123.com. Now that lil' monster will keep you happy at home, practice and all gigs in small clubs. When you turn pro, go for Carvin amplifiers (online only, Carvin.com) - those designed with Steve Vai.

marshalls are nice, i have a line 6 that rocks, but i've been playing for a while it really depends on what you want to do and how serious you are, but ithink a marshall might have the overall value and quality but you can probably find a cheaper fender amp (i'm assuming you want to be something small like a 20 inch)

It really depends on what sound you are after, I use and think that Bogner amps are one of the best. also Mesa Boogie. good luk.
