I personally smoke cigarettes, and as much as I would LOVE to quite, I can't; or CAN, but at the current time, don't want to. Its addictive, so I'd say, the ONLY positive is the immediate satisfaction I get when I get the first drag. Usually I go to smoke when I am
A. stressed out
B. drunk
I'd have to say other than that, they are nasty nasty nasty!

Several types of "Smoker’s Paradoxes",[32] i.e. cases where smoking appears to have specific beneficial effects, have been observed; often the actual mechanism remains undetermined. For instance, recent studies suggest that smokers require less frequent repeated revascularization after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).[32] Risk of ulcerative colitis has been frequently shown to be reduced by smokers on a dose-dependent basis; the effect is eliminated if the individual stops smoking.[33][34] Smoking appears to interfere with development of Kaposi's sarcoma,[35] breast cancer among women carrying the very high risk BRCA gene,[36] preeclampsia,[37] and atopic disorders such as allergic asthma.[38] A plausible mechanism of action in these cases may be the nicotine in tobacco smoke acting as an anti-inflammatory agent and interfering with the disease process.[39]
A large body of evidence suggests that the risks of neurological diseases such as Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease might be twice as high for non-smokers than for smokers.[40] Many such papers regarding Alzheimer's disease[41] and Parkinson's Disease[42] have been published. A plausible explanation for these cases may be the effect of nicotine, a cholinergic stimulant, decreasing the levels of acetylcholine in the smoker's brain; Parkinson's disease occurs when the effect of dopamine is less than that of acetylcholine. Opponents counter by noting that consumption of pure nicotine may be as beneficial as smoking without the risk.

Huh. If you go to wikipedia.org, on the nicotine page, there are actually lots of benefits. For instance, there's a lot of evidence that there's less Parkinson's and Alzheimer's in smokers than in nonsmokers. It also has weight-loss benefits and appears to interfere with the formation of some kinds of cancer.
According to David Sedaris, smoking really helps him control his OCD.

The only POSITIVE is for the Cigaratte company,,,,not for the user. It will create a postive cash flow for them.
Unfortunately, nicotine is the most addictive DRUG in the world...the only difference it will kill you slowly, compared to the other drugs.
I started early in life and I cannot stop and I will die because of it.
It already caused me heart problems not to tell abbout the lungs.
If you want to die slowly....and make the cigarette companies richer....go right ahead.

There is none for our health, but there is presumably one positive fact that I took notice when I was a very young boy back 45 yrs ago, when people would alway smoke inside the latrine type toilet to hide the smell of their own ****. They cannot even tolerate the smell of their own ****.

wellllll... they can help you keep weight off, and if you eat alittle tobacco you will get rid of worms(vermicide). and if you get stung by a bee , if you put tobacco on it, it'll stop the swelling. it's also an effective expectorant (helps you get phlegm up when you cough).course when tobacco co'.s 1st started (1600's) no one knew the evils, just recently found in the overall scheme of things. no matter what anyone says. just read history. older books are better as they haven't been politically-corrected.

i don't know if you would necessarily call it a positive, cigarettes bad no matter how you cut it but... to those addicted, smoking a cigarette is quite enjoyable, it is relaxing, and stress relieving... i am sure that is why ( besides monetary reasons) they continue to sell them... many people are addicted to the euphoria, however brief they induce.

Nicotine suppresses appetite and increases intensity of dreams. Some are saying it may help protect against Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. Don't know if any of it outweighs the risks.
