Why are both of Spongebob's parents round like sea sponges while he is square like a kitchen sponge?

He was round, but his parents didn't do a very good job.
They dropped him on his head, making that flat.
He rolled out of his bed when he was very young, landing on his left side, making that flat.
He also rolled of of his changing table, the opposite way, landing on his right side, making that side flat too.
When he would cry, his parents would bounce him on there knees as a first resort, making his bottom flat.
and he fell forward A LOT, making his front flat.
and last,
He was pushed around in school, causing him to fall on his back, making that flat too.
