Is surgical steel o.k? Does it hurt to get your belly button pierced?

It all depends on what type of metal your skin can tolerate. For example, if you are allergic to most common jewelry (i.e. fake metal jewelry), then it's best to go with jewelry made for sensitive skin. If that is the case with you, then make sure you ask for the sensitive metal or nickel-free metal (nickel is usually what the sensitive skin is allergic to).

You'll definitely feel the pinch when you first get your belly button pierced. Just make sure you take extra care of it, don't sleep on your belly for the first month, and clean it at least once a day.

Surgical steel is what the piercers prefer because you stand the least chance of rejection. It will hurt for a second. It's the healing that's annoying because of waistbands. I have had nipples done, and one below the belt. It was worth the moment of pain.

After a few months you can choose another metal like titanium or gold if you like, and have your piercer change the jewelry out.

Surgical steel is the norm... unless you are allergic, then titanium is your best bet.

No metal. Belly-button piercings are gross.

well i'd recommend Titanium its much lighter so it wont really pull down with gravity...i'd get a curved barbell too...not a ring bc that causes more movement
