The school bus carrying the children back from an outing just misses hitting a deer in the middle of the road, because of this the bus goes off the road, through the woods, and into a frozen lake. It starts to fill up with water, the priest gets knocked out, the driver gets out and leaves them all there, and the kids start to panic. Simon takes control and helps get everyone out and realizes one is missing. He goes back into the front of the bus and finds a child who's foot is caught. After getting this child unstuck the bus goes under water. The other child gets a window open and ends up getting out by standing on Simon's back as he is under water. Simon eventually gets saved by Joe. Then dies in the hospital.

The kids are in the bus en route home after the retreat when the driver misses a deer by 2 inches, sending them careening down a hill. The brakes give out, therefore the driver could not stop before the bus plunges into a frozen river. The driver evacuates his bus back to dry land, and Reverend Russel is knocked unconscious. All the children panicked except one-Simon. He takes charge of the situation, ensuring everyone got out of the bus. Simon does a mental headcount and realizes one of the children is still in a bus. Simon goes back for the child, who tells him his foot is stuck. Simon dives and frees the child s foot, opens the emergency hatch after some difficulty, and gives the child a boost out. Meanwhile, the bus is moving. Joe goes back in the water to save his best friend, and Ben follows. Once both children are out of the bus, Simon is rushed to the hospital, where he later dies the next day of either hypothermia or secondary drowning.

Yes I love that movie. I actually own it. The first time I saw it in the theatre I cried my eyes out. Then on the way home I saw a dead doe on the side of the road (the doe in the movie) and started crying all over again. I had so many ironic things the rest of the week that happened just like in the movie. I still cry when I watch it.

Hey! I saw that movie this afternoon on the CW11! and then i saw your question. Simon and Joe were helping little children on a church trip. the bus driver saw a deer on the road and turned into the edge of the cliff. the bus fell into the water and sank. Simon died saving the little children from drowning. and then he drowned by himself. he died a few days later in the hopital. Good movie. i loved it! and in the end ben adopts joe.

Bus went over a cliff. Simon opened the back door and saw the current. He calmed everyone down and helped the kids off the bus to his friend. Freind waded to the shore with all of them he thought. Simon said one was missing. He went back found the kid. THe kid had his foot stuck. Simon went under the water on the bus and got his foot loose. Bus slipped off the rock holding it and went farther into the water. Door closed and locked. Friend dove back in to save them. Older audlt dove in too. Simon went under water and lifted kid to open bus window. Kid got out. Bus sank. Friend was screaming and diving for him. Simon came to surface Everybody made it to shore. While walking back up mountain friend falls down has passed out. Next is the hospital with friend telling his father that he had discovered earlier that he would see him in church. Old guy walk with friend to Simons room. They talk and Simon says he has to go now. Then died. Voice in back ground says older guy adopted friend. Last part is Friend is now grown up and is at cemetery with his son. His son says he is going to be late for his soccer gam. Friend makes joke about peewee and movie ends.

if i remember rightly, its a school bus accident. The school bus ends up in a lake or something and simon helps save the kids but drowns himself and ends up in a coma and dies.
