Except for the Amish, sounds a lot like where I live, and the metro area is about 223,000. Here we have Dunkards, or more formally, the Old German Baptist, which are sort of Amish Lite. And although the city and immediately surrounding counties don't close for hunting, some of the adjoining counties do. It's part of the culture here.
I don't consider myself a hick, nor do I consider you to be one. Different areas of the country, along with different cultural groups have different customs, accents, traditions, etc. I think this is a good thing.

Why... be proud of who and what you are... sounds like an area of lots of good people... Penn?... seen some of that counry... would like to live in some parts of that area... and nothing wrong with a lot of W.V. either for that matter... 10 miles is two close to a big city for me though... I just got back from a movie and had to drive 40 miles which is the closest theater... I live in a small town

No i do not think so. I live in a place just like you and i swear if i didnt know it i would think you were my neighbor. I actually consider myself a hick but i dont consider it an insult. My school shuts down for the first day of buck season. I shoot a full sized rifle at a target outside my house and its not like i dont have neighbors. I am definitely a hick.

What on earth is 'maney'?
You might not be a country rube yourself, but -- the school shuts down for hunting?!? I've never even heard of that. I'd say: hick town, yeah.
There's not necessarily anything wrong with that. But.

Sounds like a hick town. I live near Atlanta, Georgia and we have our share of hicks but we've never closed school to go hunting.

To me a hick town is where most front porches have Washers, Dryers or Sofas on them and there is a couple of trailer (not mobile home) parks. I know, cause I'm from one of those towns.
Others might say that you described a hick town, but I think of it as old time Americana.

Some people might call it a hick town. But it really depends on individual people. If they are well-educated, then I think it wouldn't be fair to call them hicks.

Why do you worry about it? There's a lot of towns like that here in Ohio. Big cities have their problems too...lots of schools in the cities here can't produce a kid who reads!

CW is a public station no longer cable so your cable provider isnt gonna do you any good. It sounds to me such as you desire a good antenna to pass on your roof for the usually used public television stations. Thats what we had to do. I stay out in the rustic so some distance out cable isnt even an option. good success hun attempt a house base cb antenna they paintings the terrific .;)
