I don't think so. When you add minutes to the prepaid phone, the phone has to be connected to the provider for entering verification codes. Your old phone probably isn't set up for that. I use TracFone. You can find those on sale at K-Mart all the time & it's pretty cheap to get started. Just make sure you're not still under contract with the old company, they usually have pretty high early termination fees.
