Since childhood, I've been trying to find out who sang this song. I had the 45 and used to play it over and over again, and I recall the singer's voice was a LOT like the old Popeye cartoon character (kind of gravely and coarse). The lyrics went (in part):
"Red and green, red and green,
Red means stop and green means go.
Red and green, red and green,
These are things that you should know."
Anyone have any clues? Was the song associated perhaps with the Romper Room series on Saturday morning cartoons?
Thanks for any guidance. I've been really lucky getting good answers here.

Thanks, guys. The Romper Room connection enabled me to find this listing at:
http://webs.lanset.com/lurch/toys/page3.html
Popeye Safety Song 7" 78 rpm. early '60's. Little Golden Record.
Yellow vinyl. Songs are: "Red and Green" and "Never Play With Matches".
Jacket is NM and record is Fine. This has the TV voices. $10.00
So, it WAS Popeye singing the song! I don't recall the Matches song, however.
