What is it like? I hear it is hell! Could it be any more worse than a Navy Seal Training? What should I expect? I don't have a child but I want a jump start.

It just depends on the baby, my daughter was sleeping 6 hours through the night straight home from the hospital and has been an angel but my neice was colicky and woke up every 2 to 3 hours and would cry for hours at a time. It will all be ok. Congrats and Good Luck!

The hardest part is that you have NO control at all. The baby will sleep when it wants to sleep. Cry when he/she wants to. Eat when he/she wants........just try SO hard to be flexible. and follow that golden rule "sleep when the baby sleeps" everything else can wait.......trust me on this one. I spent the first 5 weeks sleeping 4hours per night and 4 hours per day and actually felt pretty good.
Try to get a routine down as soon as you can............not that the baby will follow it, but it helps. get a "bedtime routine" and a general idea of how your day will go.
Another good tip.....get lots of help. Anyone who wanted to come see the baby had to do one thing while they were there. wash a few dishes, move the clothes from the washer to the dryer...whatever. That really helped me........
I had a bouncy seat and a bassinette on wheels......both wonderful things. Where I went, she went. i was even able to shower with the basinette in the bathroom and the door open.
It will be a big learning experience, but well worth it. just stay flexible, have fun.......and remember.....your parents did not know what they were doing either!

It all depends on the child. My oldest one was a screamer...I had a lot of sleepless nights. My youngest was very content, but he woke up very consistently to eat. It's not as bad as what people make it out to be. For the most part, I think mommies just get used to sleeping on someone elses schedule. The easiest way to deal with it is to take it easy during the day, don't expect yourself to be super mom and keep the house spotless and make a seven course dinner. Relax, nap when your baby naps. Its all worth it in the end though, and when its over and they are sleeping through the night, I always found myself missing those late night visits with my babies.

Every child is different, every pregnancy is different. Just don't expect the baby to be any certain way, go with the flow & be flexible, be ready for no sleep, not knowing what is wrong, crying, lots of diapers & laundry! :)
