Yes, Nextel texts just the same as any other cell phone provider.

We send and receive text messages on our Nextel phones all the time. You have to sign up for the service, which also allows you internet access. In order to send and receive photos, you need to have a camera phone, make sure your plan covers photo transfers, else it is pay as you go
