Since you didn't specify which part of the island you were thinking about visiting, a little geography lesson comes first! Most visitors to DR visit Punta Cana on the Eastern tip of the island, although there are several other tourist locations; Puerto Plata on the North shore, La Romana, Juan Dolio, and Santa Domingo on the South. There are also several in-land destinations.
I'll assume that your going to vacation in Punta Cana - the main tourist destination. Most all resorts, with the exception of a few "adults only" resorts, are family friendly - day camps, children's activities, some even offer a babysitting option.
Some of our agency's favorite family friendly resorts include:
- Sunscape the Beach
- Bavaro Princess
- Caribe Club Princess
- Iberostar Bavaro, Dominica & Punta Cana
- RIU Bambu
- Ocean Blue
- Melia Caribe
- Paradisus
- Barcelo Bavaro Palace
- Occidental Grand
- Allegro
- Grand Palladium Bavaro
I've been to several hotels in Punt Cana and have visited many others.
Punta Cana does not have many off-resort activities or places of interest - its kind of a laid-back, chill-out and enjoy your resort vacation. All hotels have tour desks for the 20 or so tours that are available.
Punta Cana has year round beach weather - with the high season from mid December to mid April.
Go on line to www.applevacations.com and check-out everything. They have full details and pictures of all the hotels, and you can design your own package and switch the hotels in and out until you have exactly what you're looking for. Then it allows you to send what you've created over to a local travel agent to take care of everything for you at no additional cost!
I hope this information was helpful.

Just went to DR in July of 2006 "Grand Paradise Island Resort...Had a ball!!
Be careful...b/c there was one resort not to far from ours that some folks were complaining about due to the fact that the maids were heading a prostitution ring. They were soliciting on the beach and in different areas where the single men were hanging out.
One guy told my husband that the maid that came to clean his room was trying to get him to pay for sex.
Of course i forgot the name of the resort.
I'm sorry!!!
