This question is more about the meaning of "exotic" than a zoology question.

Exotic is a designation for something which is not familiar to oneself. For example, I'm in Switzerland and for a Swiss, India is exotic. However, many Bollywood movies (Indian movies which include much dancing and singing) are shot in the mountaint landscapes of Switzerland. They consider both the culture and the landscape as exotic.

For me, never been in the US, a buffalo or a puma would be exotic to me. But it won't be to most Americans.

So basically, "exotic" is a matter of perspective.

It certainly doesn't always mean beautiful. An
exotic animal might be quite ugly. It means not
native to the location being considered. A koala
or a kangaroo would be exotic in North America,
but not in Australia.

All animals are exotic to someone. Exotic animals are animals from somewhere far away from where your used to. A foreign/unusual animal.
