I dunno...I'd say the money, fame, and drugs may have something to do with it though.

Modeling actually does require skill.Young teens traveling to foreign countries alone finding their way from casting to casting in places with different alphabets in bad neighborhoods in sexy clothing without getting raped is not easy...Changing elaborate outfits in mere seconds-strutting down a runway while being blinded by flashes in platform heals a size too small and smiling and projecting an image the designer wants portrayed while keeping choreography and rhythm to the music requires talent. Twisting your body and relaxing your face to "pose naturally" in a bikini on a pile of snow without chattering your teeth is a skill. We make it look easy. Don't let the secret out. Smoke and mirrors create a glamorous illusion. It is part of the magic and it is an art form that is misunderstood by most. Why so many girls want to do it right now is because it has been so sensationalized in the media lately. Also girls who wouldn't normally qualify are being allowed in now. Why? That is the real question.

I wanted to become a full-time model but gave it up because I wanted to go to school for architecute and that's what I'm currently doing. Don't think that modeling requires little skill. Have you ever tried to constantly watch your weight when there are so many temptations out there? I'm down to a size 3 but that isn't enough.I'm Mexican and have curves and I hate that I have to lose them. I model on the side to pay for my schooling. Girls want to become models because models have the ideal body. Everyone finds models hot, and every girl wants to be hot. Models get what you wish you had. Models hang out with people you wish you could hang out with and see places you wish you could see. They get privaleges up the butt. We live in a superficial world that I make part of. Being a model isn't all that great. You pretty much have no friends. Girls envy you. I lost all of my old high school friends b/c I was prettier than them and b/c everytime I would be around their boyfriends, they would follow after me. I don't even have friends in college. I've got guys, but that's no comparission for a best friend. Models have more guy friends than they could want, and girls want to be wanted. Ugly people wouldn't be able to understand. If you're less than beautiful, and you say that models are ditsess, it's only b/c you're jealous and b/c envy is burning you from the inside out. You can't get what I mean unless you have looks that literally make heads turn and eyes gleam when they see you walk by.

Why do you think it requires little to zilch in the way of skills?

A model must be skilled in runway modeling (walking), makeup application, social networking, "posing" in front of the camera (finding the best angle of her body for the camera and situation, helping the photographer get the best picture of her), acting (facial expressions, capture a look or mood for a photograph/commercial), and have a good work ethic (as she will will have to make appointments on time and work long hours).

Furthermore, a model must be able to find new locations easily as she has to travel from place to place to get her photos done/interview with prospective employers.

I think modeling would be terribly difficult; to top it all off, you'd have people picking apart the way you look/walk all day long.

Just watch one of the episodes for America's Next Top Model and you'll see it can be very challenging. Those girls are A-Mazing that they can do that stuff!

READ THIS. cocolo1600@yahoo.com for replies.

There was a poll taken on either on a website or in a magazine for women (can't remember) asking if at one point they possessed the desire to be (some kind of) a model and if so, to what degree.
There was a huge percentage of women that answered yes-strongly.
I personally didn't take the poll, but I would have answered yes-strongly just like the rest.
For many, the answer to this post question is this: We, as women (and as humans in general) have a strong desire to be accepted by the general public (our society, people of same culture..etc.). We as women have a HUGE self image issue (I'm not implying that women are all insecure, but that they all want to be beautiful...come on, admit it.)
At one point in my life, I thought that to become a model, to be accepted into the fashion industry and have everyone look at me as "a model" would solidify my beauty; it would verify FOR SURE that I was beautiful, and I would release all insecurity.
I thought, "Oh boy, if I become 'A MODEL', I'll probably never doubt my own beauty again."
But the fact of the matter is this: No one will ever find total security in themselves THROUGH another.
By that I mean, we can't find security through a modeling industry taking us in, or a boyfriend/girlfriend telling us we're beautiful/hot/handsom/gorgeous...whatever.
Can it be flattering for a certain amount of time? Absolutely! Sometimes when you find out that gorgeous person (who you thought was way out of your reach) thinks YOU are hot, it seems like that it'll hold you over forever.
But ultimately, you have to find security in yourself. You have to be able to look in the mirror in your darkest, most depressing, self-doubting hour, and think, "Oh geez, I'm not all that bad."
Too many women are killing themselves (inside) to become high fashion models to feel accepted by the industry and the world.
I say, don't sweat it. Make yourself a strawberry daiquiri, stop watching America's Next Top Model, and start eating again.

I KNEW it was meant to be. my parents encourage it and believe i can do it, so i will.
