I think the best thing to do would be to publicize the fact that there are going to be locker searches in the future.

Remember, if you announce the schedule for the searchs, those that have something to hide will remove them on search day and bring them back the other days. So number one, be sure to show that they are RANDOM searchs.

Also, you do not want to do ALL lockers every time. That takes too many people, is far too disruptive, and takes too long. So you have a lottery. Sections of lockers are placed in a bowl, and somebody from the student body draws the slips of paper from the bowl. Every slip drawn identifies a section of the lockers. Each drawn slip initiates an immediate search.

Tell everybody that the reason for the search is not to punish bad guys, but to keep everybody safe and the school rules obeyed. You are here to promote good, not do bad.

Ask for parent volunteers to serve on the search team. Have a team of searchers who are trained in rapid locker searches. Have somebody behind them who will photograph and make notes on each locker. The main goal is to go through each locker in the designated search area quickly and thoroughly. Keep track of everything found that is contraband by locker number and picture number. Have a clock/calender device made that can be shot in the picture to identify date/time and size relationships.

When you are ready to search, run the fire drill and have everybody evacuate the building. Have teachers and counselors in every hall to insure nobody goes to their lockers. Keep them moving. If anybody disobeys the order to evacuate or returns to their locker, keep them in a separate search area and have somebody on the team search them for possible contraband.

This is a very difficult issue, since those people who have something to hide will try to intimidate all the others. Make sure you have the support of the principal and other teachers before starting. Good luck with this project.

This seems like more of an opinion-geared question, so just answer with your opinion. And nobody could answer the last question unless they went to your school and knew the school's budget.
