I've read some feeds on here stating that getting a midwife is better than going to a hospital. I would like some feedback about having a midwife verse having a doctor.

Some midwives do work in hospitals. You can have a homebirth, a freestanding birth center birth or a hospital birth with a midwife.

Personally, I prefer midwives over doctors. They are more personal and more detailed in their care. You'll be lucky if you see your doc for 10 mins out of each appointment. With a midwife, you'll spend 30 mins to 1 hour WITH the midwife at your appointments. You'll get to know each other and she'll know what you want in labor. She'll actually be WITH you during labor instead of just showing up to catch, which is what most docs do. Midwives are also typically much more skilled at supporting mothers who want an unmedicated birth.

I think it has to do with the confidence level of the mother. Birthing was done at home for a long time, and some mothers resent the interference of doctors leashing them to a bed with a fetal monitor, and being too quick to order a c-section.

I think a good midwife does have the health of baby and mother uppermost in their mind, and will call 911 if there is distress or some condition arises that the midwife can't handle. I also think it is much less expensive.

My only concern is that there may be some problem with the baby that might need immediate attention, but might not be noticed right away. If there are no known reasons that might cause problems, and especially if it is not a first birth, it cou;d be a good idea. Another concern I'd have is how the midwife handles doing and repairing an episiotomy. You don't want to be left to tear, and you want that thing to work right when it's time to use it for fun again.

i have had 5 children and i went to a regular dr for all of them my sister in law has 6 children and she has gone to a midwife for the last 5. we both were pregnancy coaches for each other. i have nothing against midwives and she has nothing against drs but there are things that a midwife does for you that your dr cant and vise versa it really depends on where you live too bucase different states and cities have different laws and regulations on midwives. i think that if i had to choose it would be very hard to say one is better than the other because of what i went thru with my dr and her midwife i think they are both very good choices

Some midwives work in dr's offices and hospitals.
I was seeing a midwive for my last pregnancy at my dr's office (she worked at their office).....and had she been on duty that night she would have delivered me. I loved her, she was so much nicer and friendly and talked to me in terms I could understand than the dr's there in the office. Thankfully she was called when I went into labor and at least came in to check on me and even broke my water for me...I really wish she had delivered me because she was awesome!
I saw a regular dr with my son and he was nice but not nearly as comforting and nice as my midwife!

I think everyones answers are right on. I visited a birthing center yesterday w/ my wife. It was very comfortable and they answered all our questions. Obviously, its not bright and white like a hospital setting, but was more of a home setting.

My wife was hesitant to go there at first, but now would like a mid-wife delivery.

Besides that, the price is about 1/2 of what you'd pay at a hospital.

medical doctors are huge blessing and are large at what they do. it really is, they're educated surgeons who specialise in magnificent/project pregnancies and births. they oftentimes see the delivery procedure as a incorrect risky procedure that needs practise; maximum OBs have not oftentimes ever or by no ability considered a ordinary organic delivery without some style of intervention. Midwives are educated in commonplace delivery and being pregnant. they're waiting to attend to a brilliant type of ordinary from postpartum hemorrhage to prolonged not hassle-free artwork. also they're educated to work out even as a being pregnant or delivery is going outdoors the type of ordinary and could require more effective medical intervention and/or the care of an OB. Midwives oftentimes see delivery as a ordinary portion of ladies's progression and be conscious the mum and toddler because the established gamers contained in the technique, even as she is the commonly low-profile figure of the technique. additionally they are oftentimes a lot more effective bodily and emotionally supportive than the healthcare professional and many will act as a not hassle-free artwork help human being, while medical doctors oftentimes are available only for the delivery. learn after learn have got here upon that homebirths are basically as chance-free for lowrisk women folk as well being facility births with an significant relief in interventions. it truly is even as a pro midwife is for sale to attend the delivery. there are various of international places with more effective useful maternal and neonatal consequences than Americas...and that all of them adhere to the midwifery style of care and inspire or enable homebirth. in reality, contained in the Netherlands, the position the suitable maternal and neonatal consequences take position, a million/3 of their births are planned homebirths (while right here contained in the States, a million/3 of our births are carried out by ability of Cesarean even as in consumer-friendly words a million% of births take position at homestead). So, for low chance healthful women folk midwives and homebirths could be a first option; it really is a chance-free and gratifying one.
