dv2000t is excellent
Dell's are crap and MacBook's are too expensive for what they are.

Personally, I'm getting a Mac for college, because of the virus issue and it's something new to me. I've never had luck with Dells. HP is my recommendation if there's essential stuff you're not sure would be compatible with Leopard (although you could always buy Vista and run it from Boot Camp on the Mac, which is my plan) My computer geek friend likes the HP in the way of PCs, which has really decent hardware, but a lot of extra software you won't need. She ended up telling me to get the Mac for college. The Dell's might seem cheaper, but they're more expensive to make them on par with the Mac.

You need to ask yourself the following questions:
Do you want a MAC or a PC
Do you want a Desktop or Notebook
If you decide to go with a PC than ask yourself if you want a:
IBM/Lenovo, Dell ,HP/Compaq, orGateway
PC's and MAC's are two completely different operating environments. If you are not accustomed to a MAC there will be a learning curve. Also keep in mind you may not be able to find everything for a MAC as you did for a PC.
Though MAC offers Boot Camp which allows you to run Windows XP, you still need to purchase the full version of Windows XP and set it up.
In my opinion if I were to go with a PC I would go with an IBM Thinkcenter (Desktop) or IBM Thinkpad (Notebook). If I were to go with a MAC I'd choose either a MacBook Pro (Notebook) or a Mac Pro (Desktop).

if you are attending a university, check to see if they are affiliated with dell. Like dell offers deals with bsu at dell.com/boisestate
you can get a pretty good combined discounts. Otherwise, my opinions include:
sony... some of the most bad *** laptops out there if you want some high quality. i'd get a sony over a mac since they're both expensive and mac's are so... i don't know. apple enthusiasts annoy me. HPs are crap, i think they are anyway. that's just me though because wal-mart sells them, that tells me they're more mass produced that and they perform cheap. Dell with a warranty will last a long time.

buy a computer that suits your needs not a computer that suits your pocket or wardrobe
a mac is entirely different from the hp and dell ( its not just a brand name but an entirely different operating system)
Most computers have the same components in them so look at the stats for each individual one and you might actually get a bargain with a non brand name computer
example,
over here sony vaio with 100gb hard drive, 1.60Ghz centrino duo and 1 gb of ram sells for £800
but an advent (local brand) has the same processing power, same hdd , same ram a camera and a bigger screen sells for £650

Depends on what you plan on doing with it.
In the business world, most people run Windows based computers - thus either HP or Dell (I have had good luck with HP. Never owned a Dell.)
But people who do marketing/designs - these graphic artists are usually MAC people.

Well, with the Mac you can run any operating system you want (even at the same time) and while you're running Mac OS you don't have to worry about viruses and such.

Definitely the Mac. I don't have one but my next computer will be one. They have lots of features that PCs don't have and they are easier to use.
