What are good reasons for a 14 yr old to get a cell phone?!?!?

i need good reasons to get a cell phone!!! everybody and i mean EVERYBODY has a cellphone EXCEPT me!! even 5th graders i know have a cell phone! and also which plan is cheaper- to just add a line to our shareplan or get me a go phone? [for around 40 min talk time a month]

To have a way of getting in touch with someone if something should happen. And to stay in touch with friends of course. Growing up isn't the same anymore, sad to say that cell phones are becoming a necessity of life, maybe not right now at your age but your parents should definately look at some for you soon. As for a plan it would probrably be better if you got a shareplan with a family member at your age. I would look out for special promo's from phone company's who offer unlimited nights and weekends. For example, T Mobile had a promo last year with 1000 minutes, unlimited nights and weekends for $39.99 a month. Couple that with a txt message plan and your looking at $45-$55. If you could find something similar than you should definately get your parents to look at it.

I have to say, I don't agree with you that children should have cell phones.

However, there is one good reason why they should. That is for safety only. If a child will need to stay late after school or be out with friends and need to call home for a ride, that is a good reason.

Unless it has a GPS chip on it so that they know where you are at ALL times, I see no other reason why you would need a cell phone.
