hockeytown is a sacred part of detroit. you don't mess with it. regardless of what others here say, detroit loves their redwings, as michigan loves their hockey. not only are the wings huge in michigan, but so is hockey at the college level. just cuz detroit is in the us doesn't mean that the people there don't respect the game.

It is the nickname that the Detroit Red Wings use. The city was dubbed Hockeytown during the Cup years of the late 90's and has been accepted as the teams mantra ever since. They have the name Hockeytown right on the ice and they sell Hockeytown labeled hats, shirts, jackets ,etc.. They even have Hockeytown Cafe next to the "Joe". It is based mostly on the attitude that Detroit is in fact the best "Hockeytown".

Hockeytown is in Detroit, MI. It's named Hockeytown because of the success and popularity of the Detroit Red Wings. The Wings are one of the Original Six hockey teams in the NHL. Before becoming the Red Wings, they were the Cougars (1926-1930), then Falcons (1930-1932) and since 1932 have been the Red Wings. There is a long legacy in Detroit for Hockey. They are one of the winningest teams in Hockey.

I think TOronto is hockeytown. In toronto, hockey is everything, its all anybody ever talks about. It has the hockey hall of fame, it has produced the most NHLers, it has won the second most stanley cups, Leafs games have been sold out for almost 40 straight years and nothing on the leafs can be kept a secret away from the fans.
Also, toronto is the most loved NHL team. Just because something happens to the leafs and the fans say "that was a stupid move" or somethign like that, it doesn't mean that the fans dont love them, it just means that they care about them.
