I recently upgraded to ie7 and for a while all was working as before but recently I have been unable to connect to the internet using my wireless connection. I can connect to the wireless router without problem but can not generate an internet gateway no matter what I do. All works fine with the wireless router if I hard wire via a LAN so I dont think the problem lies with the router. When I check network connections within XP I dont have an internet gateway when I have only a wireless connection but I do when I am hard wired. Please help I am out of ideas!!!

try manually assigning your IP and gateway:

Control Panel > Network Connections > right click the wireless connection name > Properties > scroll the box in the middle down to TCP/IP - highlight click the properties box just below it > change Obtain Automatic to Use the following
enter the IP (if your router is 192.168 then assign something within that range) the subnet should be 255.255.255.0 and gateway will be the IP of your router (probably 192.168.0.1)

If that doesn't help, switch back to auto obtaining and try this link:

Go to Run
Type cmd
in the black window, type ipconfig/all
does this show a default gateway ip address (other than 0) and DNS servers (other than 0).

if these are zeros try typing ipconfig/renew

You say that the internet connection works if you hard wire the pc to the router, so the problem may be with the pcs setup for the wireless link.

Start
Control Panel
Network
right click on the wireless connection and select properties
scroll down to internet protocol (it should be ticketed).
click on this and select properties
make sure that select ip address automatically and select dns automatically are both selected.
ok, ok

Your PC should be getting its settings from the router, which inturn is getting them from your internet service provider.

Hope this helps

Check the Windows Device Manager to see if there any issues with the Wifi hardware in your system. Check the Windows Wireless monitor and re-enter the WEP or WPA encryption key if you need to. Use a utility called Net Stumbler www.stumbler.net to check to see if you are receiving any signal from the access point. Move any cordless phone base away from your access point.

The signal on my laptop showed a connection. However, I couldn't access the Internet. Not on my laptop, nor my desk PC. Sprint told me to unplug the external modem, unplug the router, then turn off the desk PC. Wait 5-10 Min's. Turn external modem back on, wait until all lights stay on permanent, turn router back on, wait 5-10 min's, then turn desktop PC back on and try logging on to internet. Don't know if this is your problem but it worked for me. Good luck

Virus protection or a firewall might be stopping the connection, trawl thru forums or get a friendly geek in to look at it

easy one this, if your computor shows you are connected, just go to your browser type usually 192.168.1.1 type in username =Admin and password = Admin may all be lowercase in some circumstances but try the ones i put. then go to advanced setup, then go to isp setup, then enter your username, then enter your password, then save, then log out of that page, you should now be able to connect ok

the best thing to do is phone the router's manufacturer e.g. netgear, BT, belkin, Linksys. and they will help you with this issue.
