how do i get my gaming headset to work on my computer?

It depends on the type of headset.

If it's a 2.5 mm jack headset, simply plug it in. If it's USB then you have to use the drivers that came with it, and then configure it in your control panel sound settings for your computer to use that device as a microphone.
