I believe it is calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate comes in various forms, such as chalk or limestone, but also has other forms. Here's my reasoning:

1. Calcium carbonate in the form of rocks is eroded to become sand.

2. Paint can be sanded away, albeit slowly.

Calcium carbonate is used in painting to increase the bulk and volume, and also in making stained glass windows to prevent the glass from sticking to the firing oven's shelves when firing paints and glazes.

i don't know what it is, but i'm going to take a guess: tripotassium phosphate (it looked big and fancy)
