You CAN buy banana seeds. Bananas are flowering plants and do make seeds. I have gotten them at Park Seed Co. Go to www.parkseed.com.

you can not buy banana seeds --- it's just not possible --- because bananas grow from roots ( rhizomes) --- in fact the banana will be the first plant to become " extinct" because it obviously can't reproduce from seed .
after the devastation of cyclone "Larry" up here in north Queensland --- was just about the finish of the production of bananas for the country (Australia ) as innisfail and surrounds produced 94% of bananas for domestic and overseas markets .
it was a terrible time of disaster , that i don't think everyone got the gist of --- it affected an economy that is so reliant on it's infrastructure to keep it going . and so many homes and lives disrupted --- a sad , sad state of affairs !!
but to answer your other part of your question --- bananas won't grow outside tropical conditions --- unless you've got a veryn good humid greenhouse --- you've got no hope of growing bananas --- save your money --- or better still --- donate some to the cyclone Larry recovery c/o innisfail town hall , north Queensland --- postcode : 4860 . Australia . thanks .

eBay. If you want something winter hardy, get a small plant of Japanese fiber banana (musa basjoo). I just cut them down every fall, and they come back in the spring. I live in zone 6. They also multiply quite freely. Just make sure you really prepare the soil well, and they'll do GREAT.

there is no such thing as "banana" seeds,, these plants rejunvenate from the root systems by sprouting new shoots! the plants are asexual and self reproduce. some people call these shoots 'seeds'... these you can get at any decent garden catalog such as Gurneys, henry Fields,,, or a southern garden center,, banana does not grow too well in winter climes!!
