Not a question to ponder on but....faeces is the indigestible bit of the food that we’ve eaten. Woody foods such as corn and peas pass through almost undigested. The colour comes mainly from bilirubin, a pigment that arises from the breakdown of red blood cells in the liver and bone marrow. It ends up in the intestine, where it is further modified by bacterial action. But the colour itself comes from iron. Iron in haemoglobin in red blood cells gives blood its red colour, and iron in the waste product bilirubin gives rise to its brown colour.

Genette mentioned that some foodstuffs (e.g. sweetcorn) pass through almost undigested. This is the basis of high-fibre diets. The idea is that if you eat foods that are essentially passed out again and not absorbed, then you won't put on weight. However there are verious nutrients that the body needs to extract from our food in order to give us energy and to keep our body processes in balance, so this isn't necessarily a good idea.
A side effect of this is that on very long space missions it wouldn't really be possible to have a totally recycled food system, as our waste products - by definition - have already had their useful ingredients extracted. We would have to add vitamins and other items, so it wouldn't be a closed cycle.

Feces is the undigested matter left over after you process what you've eaten. Why is it all the same color? Because it all goes through the same process of being digested, chemically processed, water removal, and storage. It is possible to change the color by eating HUGE amount of a single thing - such as corn. The corn cannot be digested fully, plus you don't need the nutrients as much, so you crap out some yellow. But the brown color is the result of mixing with acid and digestive enzymes.

Feces are dead blood cells, no matter what you eat they are brown because that is the colour of dried blood. Other colours can be an indication of health problems, ie. black can indicate internal bleeding, green means there is mucus which indicates and infection of some sort.
