With roommate: share expenses-cut the bills in half-each pay. Otherwise, no matter what, the first rule of thumb-as my father taught me: a roof over your head, food on the table, clothes on your back, bills paid, then the rest spend carefully-save some. At least try to save 5-10% of your paycheck. Also, someone told me that if you get paid by the month-divide the money left over after you pay the rent and bills, by 4-that is how much you have to spend per week. Same would go for paycheck every two weeks-rent, bills then divide the rest by 2-to show how much money you can spend each week after the needs are paid for. If youget paid twice a month, rent is usually due at the first, so I would suggest, that you pay your next month's rent out of the last paycheck for the month. I find for myself, if and when I write out my budget-whether for a two week period or a month, I list the rent, bills, etc., keep a tally of the balance, put some in savings, then divide the rest by the number of weeks till the next check. that way I know how much I have to spend per week. One tip on this-please make yourself stick to the budget. You have car insurance, car payments, gas an oil change every three months. It's okay to go out to eat-once or twice a month-depending on your budget. Also, if you have a roommate, please share cleaning responsibilities. As well as finances-rent and bills-electric, etc. Otherwise-it's all on you. Wishing you the best!.

With a roommate-
Be clear about the division of labor. You either work together, or not at all.
Respect each other's space. Don't bring your girlfriend in and bang her while your poor separated roomie can hear- (this happened to me).
Without a roommate-
Eat what you want, when you want, bring the date home and have all the fun you want.
I know it's a tough choice. Try both ways...you'll see.

People want to give you their hand-me-downs thinking it will help you out. Be discriminate. It is better to have less than to have a lot of junk that you don't want or don't need and you will eventually have to throw out. In other words, less is more. And it's much easier to live Green if you don't live with a lot of clutter.

Always pay your bills first, keep in mind your budget, and what you can afford. If you have a roommate never lend money or pay their bills.
