If this is your own house, I'd recommend using lightweight spackle (toothpaste is what renters use because it is cheap and helps get them their safety deposit back, but it will also eventually dry out and crumble off the wall). Apply the spackle with your finger or a small putty knife, let it dry, sand out any bumps and then paint. If you are painting the whole wall at the same time, be sure to wash down the whole wall, since you had a dart board there, I'm betting lots of people touched the wall while retriving the darts, leaving oils from their skin on the old paint which could screw up your paint job if not cleaned.
Good luck.

If you're planning on painting, then I'd use spackle to fill in the holes. We had a cork board on a kitchen wall for years, and we'd stick notes and all sorts of stuff on it with push pins. When we took the board down, the wall was riddled with holes (much like yours). We filled with the spackle and it turned out great!

No, paint does not fill holes. I have heard of females using toothpaste. I guess it works when it dries. Should use drywall patching compound like polyfilla(a dry powder) you add water until you get a thick cream and spread it on over the holes with a smooth edged spreader...Let it dry overnight and block sand the surface next day with 120 grit paper. then paint.
Next time use a sheet of plywood for a backing...for darts

Home Depot sells spackle or drywall mud. Buy the spackle, wipe the wall with warm soap water removing all grease/dirt..etc. let dry. Than, apply spackle with a wide putty knife generously, make sure you press really hard, back and forth so spackle gets in the dart holes. Good Lucky!

You can use spackling, which is a thick past you can buy at any hardware store or you can use some white toothpast. Just put a little on finger and mash it into the hole. Hope this helps

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get some "lightweight" spackling. It will fill the holes easily and then with some light sanding you can paint right over it.

i find that joint compound works best because if you want to spot treat the holes instead of covering the whole area with spackle, waiting for it to dry, then have to paint asap so as to not have a huge white area, joint compound is the right consistancy to dap in place with your fingertips leaving no excess behind to have to clean up or even sand. when spot treated like this the holes almost disappear without having to paint. almost.

Wow, I have the same problem!!!
Paint alone will not fix it.
The dents are still there so I don't know what will fix it.
