Do not give your baby corn syrup or brown sugar. You will be getting her accustomed to the extreme sweetness and she will start to prefer super sweet foods over regular ones like fruits and vegetables.

Regarding grannygrunt's answer, her daughter's pediatrician may have recommended the dark corn syrup, but that was 47 years ago. Back then, they also told mothers to have their babies sleep on their stomachs and now we know this can be a huge factor in SIDS. Things have changed.

There are plenty of other natural, healthy options to relieve consitpation in an infant. See the website below.

Skip it. Try brown sugar in the formula. If you are breastfeeding, you may need to eliminate some foods from your diet.

The brown sugar is safer than the corn syrup. I can't remember which one is really bad for the baby so it's better to just skip it.

Oh, it was my doctor who told me about the brown sugar.

Directions: On Tablespoon of brown sugar to a full 5oz plus bottle. Do this no more than once or twice a day.

If you are having a problem with constipation, try switching formulas. That was the only way I could stop it in my daughter. Enfamil gave her horrible gas and constipation so I switched to Carnation and it was perfect.

My son's ped told me to give him dark. About a teaspoon in his bottle. She also told me that if the constipation didn't clear up in 3 days to bring him in. It was when he was 3 months old. He is 7 months old now.
BTW, he was constipated because his grandma was secretly feeding him rice cereal. Oatmeal cereal is better- and when they are a little older. Make sure no one is feeding her cereal and not telling you.
