It was pretty impossible for me to find a comprehensive overview of the position on stem cell research that psychology has taken historically.

Why? Psychology has branched into so many different fields and specialized areas that it is impossible to trace each field and often, no unified position on this is taken by the entire field nor by any of the groups in the field.

I would say though that it would seem like they would be in favor of it.

Why?
- Find genetic basis for mental illnesses and find treatments.
- Are just as concerned about Alzeheimer's and other diseases as other medical professionals are because they treat these patients, too! Psychologist often work with Alzeheimer's patients to get them into routines to maximize the amount of time the person can be independent (living on own and such).

The APA (american psychological association) unites all the fields of psychology through this one association. If you knew APA's stance on embryonic stem cell research, you would know how the discipline of psychology feels about it. I looked online and was unable to find their official stance, yet I do know that they are in total support of gay marriages; I would think ethical issues are no more a question for APA than for any other medical organization out there... good luck!!!

During my first semester taking intro to psychology, one day the instructor came in talking about how the people would benefit from stem cell research. She also said she was mad because the president of the U. S. was against the research.
