It died out for awhile but it's on the way back stronger than before.

Dude, are you kidding? Of course racism is alive and well in America. It's alive in thoroughly documented housing and employment discrimination; it's alive in racial profiling by police and store security guards, it's alive in the continued belief that all too many have that race tells them all they need to know about an individual person. It's alive in the refusal of certain people to vote for people of a different race to represent them; it's alive in what President Bush called the soft bigotry of low expectations and it's alive and thriving among the many trolls on Yahoo Answers who use this site as a means to express the most vile slurs aginst people of different races than themselves.

That you can ask the question suggests that you must be very young or live in a very sheltered environment - or both.

American society has come a long way in of matters of race in the past two generations. Legalized racism has been almost entirely eradicated from our laws. Social expressions of racism are frowned upon. But the racism that gave rise to those laws in the first place lives on.

Some degree of racism will probably be with us for generations to come, at least. But I think we'll see a marked drop in racial antagonism when the generation that grew up in, defended and experienced Jim Crow has completely passed into history. Those folks (of my parent's generation) are alive and well and the memories, prejudices, anger, distrust, defensiveness and denial of what they experienced, fought or supported in matters of racial equality live with them.

yes racism still lives in america theres racism all over the globe in including in countries that we americans havent heard of Racism is a danger which has plagued America throughout it's existence as a nation. In years following the heyday of the Civil Rights movement of the 60's this danger has both increased and receded. Many pundits have offered their opinions, explanations and accusations.

But where has this really left us?

Few persons since Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. have offered a clear path toward a resounding resolution to this issue which can be readily embraced by all concerned. Would Dr King have supported Affirmative Action? Some say that his call to judge by the "content of ones character" indicates that he would not, but scholars who've researched his comments on the issue indicate that he would. Are those who oppose the continuance of Affirmative Action the modern equivalent of the 60's racist, as has been contended by noted activist Julian Bond - or do organizations such as the NAACP, where Bond is chairman, signify the face of modern racism with it's clearly race based (Where 'CP' equals "colored people") point of view?

Or are none of these people "racist" at all, but merely attempting to solve the same problem using different means?

Many questions need to be answered ... this work is my attempt to answer them as best I can from my own humble perspective and experiences.

Yes, it still exists everywhere in the world at various degrees and forms. We really need to learn about the true oneness of mankind and treat our global neighbours with sincere love and respect. Racism continues to live as long as each individual among us refuses to learn this lesson and put it into practice.
