For me, it depends on the dynamics of the crowd. If I'm a newcomer to a fairly established group of friends/acquaintances, it's harder to break in because members of the group already have a shared history which will likely be the topic of every discussion. In that case, I let things flow as they will and hope for the best. However, if it's a situation with several groups of people who may know a few others in the room but not most people, I'm very social and extroverted and easily strike up chats with others around me.

gotta be single to mingle. I'm with my boyfriend at parties, usually talking to our friends.
