I recently heard of a free upgrade to eligible windows XP users on http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/expressupgrade.mspx but the question is, should i upgrade it? I like my TV tuner and my media center, but will upgrading help make my computer better?

Vista (if it works as promised) will unleash the power of your computer in a way only a Mac was once able to do.

However, that all being considered...... Microsoft has a habit if releasing to a deadline rather than releasing when completed.

I'm upgrading six months after the initial crashes and resulting patches have come out.

In reference to your question and the first comment, Home Premium includes the functionality of Media Center. You won't be losing anything, and will be gaining new features and a better-working and -looking OS.

And in reference to Wolfie, Vista's security starts where XP SP2 left off - all things considered, that's not too bad. As far as reliability, who knows? There are many who have been beta-testing Vista for a while and have seen substantial stability and performance improvements from the first beta to the last release candidate to the final RTM.

That's a decision you need to make based on your needs. Windows XP is a stable, secure operating system that performs well and has most of its bugs worked out. It has established backwards compatibility for programs and is very easy to use. Windows Vista has an advanced organizational system, an improved look, and better security. Performance wise it is going to be able to access the memory faster, manage power better, and use a new generation of hard drives to work more efficiently. For small business or any advanced PC user, it would be a suitable choice for most any needs.

Depends on you. upgrades aren't always better, just newer. If you upgrade from media center to vista chances are you won't have all the multimedia support of media center.
