Does the book even specify what Jim did as a slave? did he do plantation work or was he a butler? thanks

He is the personal servant of Miss Watson. He cannot be a plantation slave because Miss Watson only has one slave. Jim's wife and children are owned by somebody else. He does all the household chores, cooking, cleaning and all but there isn't enough work to make his presence useful. That is why Miss Watson wants to sell him.

I believe Jim was a feild slave, who was very supersticious....
