AP course gives you an advantge in a college application. It says that you are ready to take on college level work, and it makes you stand out from non-ap students. It is possible to get college credits while in high school, which means you can graduate faster/take less classes in college. You will also have easier time adjusting to college once you are accepted.

AP courses matter for two reasons. The first is that they bring up your GPA. An A in an AP class counts more than an A in a regular class. The second reason is that they indicate that you ar willing to take on more challenging classes.
