When will I start to receive my forwarded mail?

After you have notified the USPS® of your change of address, it could take up to ten postal business days for mail to begin arriving at your new address. There are several factors to be considered such as:

What date did you request to have your mail forwarded?
How far did you move?
How far in advance did you notify the USPS of your move?
Notes:

Normally, records of permanent change-of-address orders (other than those subject to Retention and Use of Orders) are stored for 18 months, starting from the end of the month in which the change takes effect.

Post Office Box: I pay 17.50 per 6 months or $36 a year for a 4 inch wide and 12 inch long post office box in Los Angeles.

It takes a couple of weeks to get the address change to take effect according to my memory. They make it work electronicly by computer. There scanning equipment on the conveyer belts does the work.
