A cell phone is an inexpensive, safe way to keep in contact when you and your kid are away from each other most of the day. The plan for the phone/the phone itself need not be expensive. You can get an inexpensive phone from Wal-Mart, Target, etc and buy minutes for the phone via a phone card.

I do not think a teenager needs their own land line while living at home. They will be up at all hours of the night, while you are sleeping, talking talking talking late into the night and teens need their rest. Also, it is good for the teen to know you can and will pick up the line every now and again. Will keep them on their toes.

If you are a responsible teenager I'd say yes. What I mean by this is, when your parents ask you to do something that you know in your heart that you have time to do, you should do it. If they decide to buy you a cellphone and or give you your own phone line, you shouldn't abuse it. Don't go over your cellphone minutes and don't make a whole lot of long distance calls. Make sure you keep your grades up in school. Especially no back talk to your parents.

Only if you trust your teenager enough to use the cellphone or their phone line responsibly. The parent should make the call on whether or not their kid deserves a phone line. It should be a reward for the kid doing well in school or something like that.

Yes! If they go over their minutes or use it inappropriately then it should be whisked away, but to have at school (high school can be VERY dangerous nowadays) it is a good idea.
