My wife and I been having lots of fun (and getting good exercise) playing Dance Dance Revolution, but the mat seems to be a bit of a pain. It's always sliding around and I can never seem to stay in the middle. Plus I'd like to play it with my shoes on. Has anyone purchased a metal dance pad? Is it worth it? We're not exactly loaded, so I don't want to buy one unless it's a huge improvement. Thanks!

It's not that we're worried about getting it dirty. The directions for the mat said you shouldn't play it with shoes on.

Yes I do encourage you to get the best play mat possible. Metal pads are quite literally required to get those authentic arcade scores when playing expert level charts. I never could get a AAA score with anything less than this. The best one out on the market is the Cobalt Flux (http://www.cobaltflux.com) This is a unique dance mat that is compatible with 4-pad dance games (Dance Dance Revolution, In The Groove), 5-pad dance games (Pump It Up), or 6-pad (Dance Dance Revolution Solo) games. There are protective covers for buttons you don't need to play. It is compatible for Playstation 1, 2 and 3 (using the upcoming controller adapter), X-Box and X-Box 360, and Computer via USB port. Its a great investment for around $250 per pad.

If budget is too tight for that the next best pad is the Ignition hard foam dance pad from RedOctane. The Ignition is completly compatible like the Cobalt Flux, it has hard foam inserts that weigh down the pad and makes it comfortable for your feet to play. It also has raised buttons for an arcade feel so you don't have to look down when you step with your feet. It is designed for 4-panel dance games. Check out http://www.redoctane.com to get your hands on this popular pad for around $90.

Not really, You play a lot of for like a month and then you never play it again for a long time. It is good when you and your friends are bored and want something fun. It is a good excersize, but you can't play it for a very long time without getting bored. If you are going to get it, Don't get the wireless mats, they break down easily. Try to get thicker mats, they are easier to play on. And get an older game, because the new stuff is rubbish.

Well try putting weights on the parts of the mat you aren't stepping on so it wont move. As for your shoes if they're dirty just clean them off unless that isint the problem. Oh just put something hard under the mat. :P

If you're going to have loads of fun with DDR... I don't see why you should not invest in a metal dance pad... purchase one and set it up with 5.1 Surround Sound.... you'll both get mad goosebumps dancing.... It does not make any sense purchasing something that you are not going to use.... Go for it!!!
