By itself no. But you can buy the adapter for it and it will play them. I just saw them recently in the stores.

The xbox 360 does play HD movies but you first need to buy an HD-Movie kit. Under comments of the forum from the source list is where i got my answer

To allow your 360 to play HD DVD's you have to buy an external HD DVD drive which connects through the USB port, I've heard that Microsoft are going to release a new version of the 360 that will run HD DVD's.
