First: combine "like" terms >

13y - 8 = 7y + 16

You have:
9y-8+4y=7y+16
First of all you need to put all your like terms together.
On the left of the = sign get rid of -8 by adding it so that it becomes 0 on the left, then you add it to the right side.
On the right of the = sign get rid of the 7y by subtracting it since it is positive, then you subtract it from the left side.
You should have this now:
9y+4y-7y=16+8
Just add and subtract everything from left to right.
You should have this now:
6y=24
Now divide: 6y by 6 to get rid of the 6, then you divide the 24 by the 6 (you always have to balance out the equation)
You should get:
y=4

u just carry over everything with the y.. so 4y-7y = 3y so ur left with 9y-8=3y+16 then u take the smaller y (3y) and put that to the 9y, so u minus the 3y from both sides so ur left with 6y-8=16...then you add the 8 to both sides so 6y=24 and then u divide the 6y to the 24 which leave u with y = 4. which is the awenser.. i hope i clleared it up for you, bascially u get the Y's together, and depeding on which number Y is with, is what side u put it on.

1.u see 2 parts of this.Combine 2 parts other way:
-take all y numbers and put them to one sight.
9y-8+4y-7y-16=0
BUT as u see 7y and 16 with - cause after =u have to put to numbers oposit math sign
2.so we will have
9y-8+4y-7y-16=0
9y+4y-7y-8-16=0
then for easy making againg put simple numbers to right sight
6y=16+8
6y=24
y=4
