I don't recommend use of OTC PMS meds like Pamprin and Midol. Some of them have caffeine, which you should avoid because it could possibly make your cramps worse. Advil and Motrin and Aleve are good for cramps. Use a heating pad, hot water bottle or those thermacare heat wraps on your belly. As much as I hate to say it, exercise is great for relieving cramps. Go for a brisk walk, bike ride, run or do a workout. I HATE exercise, but it is a great remedy for menstrual cramps.

Be sure not to skip your meals. No to spicy food. Place a hot water bag wrapped with a towel and put that on you tummy. And always sit up straight. That's what I used to do everytime I had menstrual cramps. Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year!!!!!!

Ibuprophen (Advil or Midol that contains it). A heating pad also helps a lot. If you don't have time to lay down with a heating pad you can buy ThermaCare Heat Wraps for menstrual cramps. Check out this link. http://www.thermacare.com/menstrual/index.shtml

If they're really bad - definitely check with the doc to make sure you don't have conditions like fibroids, etc.
At home, I use a heating pad on my abdomen, drink plenty of herbal tea - soothing like chamomile, sleep (if you can afford to)..and I do take some ayurvedic meds - (specific to me - per ayurvedic doc), do a special yoga asana. Assuming you're in normal health to do yoga - lie down on your back on your bed/floor close to a wall. lift both legs and touch the wall -knees should be at a 90 degree angle to the wall. I found much relief in this as well.
When you're not in your cycle, do butterfly asana. It really helps lessen the menses pain! This link (http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/486_1.cfm#) is a stationary version. The butterfly asana is when you flap your knees up and down (resembling the butterfly - hence the name).
Not sure if you're open for ayurveda (old medical science from India), but check out this institute in N. Mexico online. They have products on there as well.
Hope you find some relief soon!

Heat, a heating pad. The other "home remedies" aren't effective. NSAIDs (ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), naproxen (Aleve) help with cramping. The combo products with pamabrom (Midol) work for some folks, too.

I have a home remedy that works on mine and takes them away instantly. Find something that vibrates. A massager or an erotic vibrator......just anything you can hold in your hands that vibrates. Lay on your stomach, turn the vibrations on, and put it under your stomach where the cramps are. I guarantee, the cramps will vibrate away. It works for me everytime!
