Overclocking is "dangerous/unstable" unless you know what you are doing an able to cope with the changes it causes (heat, stablity etc). Overclocking also depends on the hardware you have so. If you have no money and are in desperate need of speed and your computer parts were at one time top of the line, than overclock...otherwise just buy new hardware...software plays no part (unless your talking to OS)

If you're good overclocking can get you some more speed from the CPU but adding RAM may solve some system speed problems you think you're having.
Overclocking is generally done for game players and movie editors/animators but most average people don't use the speed the CPU's come with.
Why do you think you need to overclock?

If you're asking here, get better hardware. Overclocking pushes your hardware past safe limits. Do it without care, or the right cooling systems, and you could do everything from experiencing instability to just wrecking your hardware.
You're welcome to Google for various overclocking tutorials and forums, and spend some time there. If the material goes over your head, you know to avoid OCing.

get better hardware and software. If you overclock you got to have a way to cool down the cpu more. you can even have a fire if you overclock it to fast. so just go with newer hardware or software
