How do I set the computer so that no one can get on line?

Question

I want to have my computer set so that my son can't use it if I don't want him to. Is there a way to have a password so that he can't? There are multiple names who access it.

If you just want others not to access the Internet, but want them to access the rest of the programs of the PC, then you can use a Firewall with Privacy settings. I have McAfee and I can just prevent people to access the internet by creating a password in the Privacy Service part of this security program. There, you can choose the sites that you want to block and the sites which you want to allow access. I don't know if you have access to it or if other security programs have the same.
You can also do this in conrol panel- Internet options- content - content advisor -settings (there, you will be able to choose which sites you approved of and which you dissaprove of.

Creating A Log On Password For Windows XP

Go into your Control Panel by first clicking on the Start Button.

Then click on the Control Panel icon located in the right column of the Start Menu.

If your Start Menu is set to the Classic View, then begin by clicking on the Start Button.

Then click on Settings, then click on the Control Panel icon to open up the Control Panel.

Now, Double click on the User Accounts icon to open up the User Accounts window.

Then click on the User Account that you want to create a password for.

Then click on the Create a password link on the left side of the screen.

Windows will ask you to Type a new password and also ask you to confirm it.

Type your Password in both areas and then you can also type in a password hint as well.

Now click on the Create Password button at the bottom of the screen to save your changes.

Windows will then ask you if want to make your files and folders private.

You can decide according to the provided information and then click on your choice.

Your password will be saved and you will need to enter it the next time you start your system.

Now close the User Accounts window and the Control Panel window to return back to your session

If it is just for the internet in which you wich to ban your son. (I'm assuming you have a windows) open the start menu, find the internet connections, (it often says "Connect to" on mine. Open that, then find your internet connection, right click on the icon, go to properties and open the security tab you will find a drop down box that allows you to change whether you wish a password. Change that to Require secure password, than go from there. If you want to ban the entire computer, go to the control panel, find user accounts, pick the user account in which youwish to apply a password/block. An option will pop up with various options, one being, create a password, click on it and go from there.
