I recently purchased a Dell D620 for college. I also bought the extended battery it is a 9 cell supposed to last 7 hours. For whatever reason, it doesnt seem to run nearly that long. Probably only 2 hours at most when all I am doing is surfing the internet(not watching any videos or burning anything. Can someone tell where I can adjust my settings and what I should adjust them to so it will last longer. Any help would be great and by the way I have only had it for 5 months. Thanks in advance!!!

in case you have examined 2 diverse batteries, then it must be an inner subject. i'm merely curious, if the workstation says, no battery detected, how is it turning on? are you plugging it in directly to the outlet? I even have heard many dell laptops have this subject and that's a motherboard subject. if yours remains under guarantee, have dell replace it.

It is still under warranty so best advice is to call Dell.

One thing you can do is turn down the 'brightness' on the screen. If you are not on the net through a wireless system turn off the wireless card. Two things I do when I travel. But 2 hours does not seem right I'd call Dell.

The D620 is capable of lasting 7 hours if you set the battery mode to minimum power consumption. I think you have set the screen illumination in its maximum hence using more battery power. It's located in the power management settings. Just set it to the above setting and that might help. Good luck.

Never have i had an issue with batteries. Always allowing the battery to charge the allotted amount of time, the first time. I use a NiCad rechargeable battery for my nikon d50.

Just always make sure you do the first charge as the manual instructs, Probably 12-16 hours first charge.
